ISO 27001: A Journey of Hard Work and Achievement

“Achieving the ISO 27001 accreditation was by no means an easy task and for us at Salus Technical it has been a journey of dedication, learning, and improvement.”

As the Operations Manager, I took on the challenge of leading this process and after roughly 7 months of intense work—sometimes working on little else—we successfully achieved our certification last month.

ISO 27001 is the internationally recognised standard for Information Security Management, and gaining this shows Salus Technicals commitment to protecting both our clients and our own data with the highest level of information security. However, getting here we had to have a really good look at our existing policies and procedures, some of which needed to be completely redone to meet the strict requirements of the ISO standard.

One part of this journey was rolling out the new policies and procedures across all of our team.  It was really important that everyone understood not just what was changing, but why. This meant training sessions, discussions, and even a wee Kahoot quiz to ensure that security best practices became second nature in our day-to-day operations.

Looking back on the experience, I can most definitely say that achieving ISO 27001 accreditation is one of my biggest professional achievements to date! The process pushed me to develop new skills, understand our company operations on a deeper level and always question if we were implementing the best possible practices for the future of our business.

Beyond the certificate, this whole process has changed how we operate as a company and what we value. It has made us to look at existing practices, identify areas that need work, and make improvements that benefit all areas of our business—not just from a security point of view, but in terms of how we work, how we communicate, and how we take ownership of things.

While it was a long and, at times, challenging process. I can honestly say all the hard work was worth it. Our accreditation reinforces trust with our clients and partners, ensures that we are working to the highest standards, and shows Salus Technical is a company that takes security seriously.

If you are thinking about going for ISO 27001 accreditation, my advice is to go for it and really embrace the whole process. It’s not just about getting a certificate—it’s about making your business stronger in the long run. And when you finally get that accreditation, the feeling of accomplishment is amazing!
