Meet our Process Safety Engineer: Vidya Sajeev

What is your job title and responsibilities?
My job title is Process Safety Engineer. I am tasked with a range of responsibilities centered on engineering consultancy. I provide support to the engineering team by assisting with various projects within the engineering team.
What does a normal workday look like for you?
My workday typically begins with reviewing yesterday’s tasks and planning to carry forward the pending, if any. Then I check emails and communication platforms like Teams, Monday.com. Additionally, I go through my calendar for scheduled meetings for the current and next day to plan accordingly.
Currently, I allocate half of my day to consultancy tasks such as compiling workshop reports and managing contracts. The remaining half day is devoted to engaging on an ongoing project on a Safety Case development.
What talents or skills does someone in this job need to have?
I consider Learning Agility to be a crucial skill for a Process Safety Engineer. While theoretical knowledge serves as a foundation, practical knowledge delves much deeper. Maintaining an open mindset for continuous learning is imperative. Additionally, technical, analytical, time management, organisational skills, positive as well as active attitude are equally vital.
What do you like most about your job?
The best part about my job is the warm welcome I always receive when I raise any spontaneous queries. Feeling heard and being part of a team that shares the same wavelength enhances my sense of belonging. Furthermore, engaging in diverse tasks simultaneously provides a comprehensive learning experience, offering a holistic approach to my professional growth.
What do you want to achieve by 2029?
Never did I imagine in my dreams that I would pursue my master’s degree in the UK, or return to academia after a long gap, or I would transition into a new career field and secure a job here much sooner than I anticipated. These reaffirm my belief that good things ultimately happen to me.!
By 2029, in my professional life, I anticipate becoming an Experienced Engineer capable of leading and mentoring Graduate Engineers. In my personal life, I expect being able to support someone going through the same changes I have faced, while also enjoying the happiness of being with my family together under one roof.
What has been your favourite project to work on so far?
During my short period at Salus, I feel privileged to have been involved in a significant engineering project focused on Safety Case Development, which spans over 20 weeks. The project is providing me with ample opportunities to learn and make contributions.
If you had an unnecessary superpower, what would it be?
One unnecessary superpower I dream nowadays, is the ability to physically teleport to the other side during video calls. With technology advancing so rapidly, who knows, may be this dream could become a reality in the future 😊
