QUESTIONS

What is your job title and responsibilities?

As a Software Developer my main responsibility is to maintain the various software products that Salus offers. I also meet regularly with our sales and customer success team to keep up-to-date with ongoing customer requests. I also have occasional assessments and essays to complete as part of my 12-month placement.

What am I responsible for day to day?

My daily responsibilities are primarily to maintain and update the various products in the Salus Suite, whether in the form of maintenance or larger new features, and make contributions to our other systems.

What does a normal workday look like for you?
The development team will have a short morning meeting to discuss ongoing work and plan the day. After the work has been assigned, I typically spend most of the day coding, mixed in with occasional pair working sessions with the other developers. A second pair of eyes can often make a problem much simpler, so it’s always a great opportunity to learn something.

What do you like most about your job?
It’s fulfilling to solve a difficult problem or overcome a challenge, but I also enjoy innovating and experimenting: the supportive atmosphere at Salus makes me less worried about restarting a piece of work, learning a different and possibly better way to approach it. I’ve also had the chance to attend the ScotSoft 2025 conference and hear some fascinating talks from people in the industry.

What talents or skills does someone in this job need to have?
Being able to clearly communicate the scope of your current work is really important for a tight-knit team like the one at Salus. Keeping each other up-to-date on our progress and ensuring everyone’s on the same page is crucial.

What would you like to achieve by 2029?

By 2029 I hope to have finished my placement, graduated and accrued a few years of work experience in the industry.

What do you like to do outside work, have you any hobbies/activities?

I do a fair amount of reading and occasionally fit in some recreational programming, working on personal projects and further learning. With a lot of friends who live nearby, I always enjoy visiting them and spending time together, whether it’s singing karaoke or just planning a movie night.

If you had an unnecessary superpower, what would it be?

I spend a lot of time cooking and really enjoy it, so being able to magically refill my kitchen with whatever I need sounds pretty good!
