Meet our Process Safety Engineer: JiaJun Xie

What is your job title and responsibilities?

My job title is Process Safety Engineer and I’m responsible for various types of engineering consultancy work, including but not limited to research, report writing, workshops and engineering technical support to various types of clients.

What does a normal workday look like for you?

My day starts with reviewing tasks that were carried out on the previous days and checking updates both externally from our client and internally between various departments of our team. Then I would organise a list of tasks that I want to accomplish, but this can change very quickly as no days are the same.

What do you like most about your job?

The warm and welcoming culture of everyone in the team is one of the keys to a healthy working environment. I get the environment for freedom of ideas and thinking to think outside the box than usual procedures and I also get the trust to get the job done, however, whenever that happens.

What talents or skills does someone in this job need to have?

In my opinion, flexibility and the willingness to learn new things are the key skills for a Process Safety Engineer. As regulations and technologies are changing faster than ever, I think is very important to keep an open mind to things.

What do you want to achieve by 2029?

Futures are unpredictable, professionally by 2029 I would like to be a chartered engineer, and I would like to be even more mentally and physically fit for any challenges that lie ahead.

What has been your favourite project to work on so far?

My favorite project so far would be the HSE letter Research which lasted an extended period. The project provided an incredible learning opportunity and an in-depth view of the current industry struggles and contributed to a potential solution for that.

What do you like to do outside of work, have you any hobbies in particular?

I enjoy and compete in badminton to the highest level possible no matter which city I am in.

If you had an unnecessary superpower, what would it be?

My unnecessary superpower would be to time travel to see and record the missing details that were not in the history books.
